This lesson is a sample of the ways I will integrate the SmartBoard technology into my Mathematics program. After beginning their Mind’s On with the below Base 10 prompts, the class will use Think, Pair, Share to revisit decimal notation systems. They will do this using a place value chart to notice the patterns in writing decimals.
This lesson was used in a Grade 4 Number Sense and Numeration unit, working with money values and decimals. They problem was supplemented with an interactive paper and sticky note manipulative where students could rearrange the remaining “brownies” into full trays. The problem shows my strengths in choosing questions that rely on visual prompts to promote mathematic engagement, and as an inroad to students various learning styles.
